It's raining in Brooklyn, dark gray sky, aggressive sloshing puddles as trucks passing through the storm make there way outside my window.... The back drop of the morning makes the studio feel warmer, brighter, lovelier in contrast.
New laces arrived this morning, and I'm in the midst of assessing which ones will make the cut to the next collection. I keep imagining who will wear these pieces and how will they want to feel in that moment.
There is a Rumi quote I love, it says "Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it." That moment of introspection, of looking inside to see where you need to soften is so so beautiful. and that quote makes me think of lace, delicate, intertwined with moments of opacity and full of holes looking to be put in the right place. So perhaps today is about looking, contemplating and dreaming of love, and the needs of women to feel empowered and open on there wedding day, and how that translates into the gowns they choose.
